Inside 'We're Still Here', An All-Trans Anthology

Currently on Kickstarter, 'We're Still Here' is an anthology featuring content that is entirely written, drawn and edited by transgender creators - the first of it's kind.

---

Over 300 pages including over fifty-five stories from trans creators or creative teams, We're Still Here is as ambitious as an anthology can hope to be. Editers Tara Avery and Jeanne Thornton say in their Kickstarter description "we've been here in comics for a long time, and we're not going anywhere soon. In the mainstream comics world, one of us in an anthology can too easily stand in for all of us--assuming that there's an effort to include us at all. Our hope is that this book will showcase just how diverse the body of work trans creators are doing actually is (and that it'll make it easier for future books that propose alternate, maybe better takes on what's interesting in trans comics work to exist.) " As a fan of independent comics that showcase under-represented voices in comics and creators that open themselves up to readers, providing glimpses into their human experiences, I am incredibly excited about this anthology. Mainstream representation of transgender characters caused major stirs for readers in recent years. Namely the controversies stemming from the 'War Beast' character in Prez and Saga's introduction of Petrichor in issue 31. This only further solidifies the fact that for transgender characters and stories to be accurately represented in comics, the most worthwhile stories will likely come from transgender creators themselves.

'We're Still Here' is still able to be backed on Kickstarter for the next 18 days at this link. The Kickstarter page also provides a wealth of links to the individual creators works, which I would highly recommend checking out.
